Meditation Story

How Can I Sleep Better?

By Maggie K.
I’ve always been a very sensitive person, easily affected by other people’s emotions and bothered by loud noises. This made it hard for me to fall asleep, as my body was always on “high alert.” Even when I did fall asleep, the smallest sound would wake me up. I knew something wasn’t right, but it wasn’t until I was diagnosed with a sleep disorder that I realized I needed to change my habits. I didn’t want to rely on sleeping pills because of their side effects, so I chose natural ways to overcome my insomnia.
The changes I made have helped me sleep peacefully every night, and I’d like to share them with you. The two key habits that transformed my sleep were meditating and practicing yoga. If your body is tired but your mind is racing, it’s hard to sleep. And if your mind is exhausted but your body is restless, it’s just as difficult. Doing yoga in the morning balanced my body, and meditating at night calmed my mind, helping me relax both mentally and physically.
Here’s what you can do while in bed:

1.Find a comfortable position.
2.Focus on relaxing each part of your body, starting from your head down to your toes.
3.As you exhale, imagine pushing out any tension from your body. Now you’re ready to meditate! Try a guided meditation session before bed like I did. With regular practice, you’ll be able to let go of stress and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep every night. Good luck!
