How to Stay Disciplined?

Alex L.
For me, meditation has been a great tool for staying disciplined. Even when I lose focus, I can quickly find my way back.
Before I started meditating, my mind was always distracted. I made a big deal out of everything: failing felt like a disaster, succeeding felt like a triumph, and every emotion felt intense. This happened because my perspective was narrow, making me feel like I had to rush to achieve results.
This constant rushing was exhausting, making it almost impossible to stay disciplined with my chaotic mind. I didn’t have the inner calm needed to focus on one task at a time, which kept me from making real progress.
But meditation helped me see things from a bigger, long-term perspective, making everything feel less dramatic.
These days, my life may seem ordinary, but that doesn’t bother me. My mind feels like an ocean with ripples, waves, storms, and even some unpleasant moments, but none of these define me. Although I sometimes get affected and feel overwhelmed, I know these feelings are temporary, and I can quickly get back on track.
The main point is this: when you have a broader perspective, taking action becomes easier. You are less influenced by fleeting thoughts. Discipline follows naturally, without needing to force it. With this mindset, your ability to stay disciplined grows.
Of course, there are times when I feel frustrated or lazy. Sometimes I break my routines, but I know that it’s just a passing phase. I always return to my routines because they help me grow as a person.
To make staying disciplined a natural habit, you need some momentum. Since everything starts with the mind, I suggest starting meditation with a personal tutor. Aim for at least three sessions a week and continue for at least six months. I don’t recommend trying meditation alone; it’s too easy to give up.
Investing a little money in professional guidance will help you stay committed. Just go for it.
Good luck!
